AR Millionaires Luncheon
Congratulations to our Millionaire Readers ! They were treated to a very nice lunch at Romano's Macaroni Grill on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Students were also given the opportunity to spend some time at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore. The afternoon was concluded with an ice cream treat at Ben n Jerry's Ice Cream. It was a great day for these very deserving students. Congratulations Millionaires ! See the slideshow below to see more pictures.
De Leon Library contributes to March of Dimes
Thank you all of the students that participated in the March of Dimes fundraiser. By donating only $1.00...students were forgiven up to $5.00 of their library fines. De Leon Library was able to contribute $90.00 towards this very worthy cause. Way to go Lions !
2013 Battle of the Books Team
The MISD Middle School Librarians sponsored the first-ever Battle of the Books Competition. The Battle of the Books contest was held at Fossum MS Library on Monday, May 13, 2013. All competitors were required to read books from the 2012 Texas Lonestar List. We are very proud of our De Leon Team !

March Reading Madness Contest Winners
Congratulations to the students in Mrs. C. Castillo's ELA class. They were the winners of the 5th Six Weeks AR Contest--March Reading Madness. The students were treated to a pizza party. These students are part of our De Leon English Language Learning class and they met the challenge of meeting their individual reading goals. Great Job to these students! A special thanks to Mrs. V. Rodriguez for her support.

Welcome Author & Filmmaker James Crowley
James Crowley, Author and Film Maker will visit De Leon Middle School Library on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Mr. Crowley is a writer and filmmaker. He lives in Austin, Tx. He will be speaking to students about his first book, Starfish, "a novel that takes place in the early part of the 1900s, where two Blackfeet Indian children, escape from the Chalk Bluff Indian Boarding School in Montana to find their grandfather, and must elude their pursuers and make a life for themselves in the wilderness." He will also be talking to students about his experiences in Hollywood. He served as location manager on the first Narnia movie!
We will have some paperback books for sale at a cost of $8.00 each.

Welcome Author Jason Henderson!
A scary good time at the De Leon Library is planned on October 19th...Jason Henderson, author of the Alex Van Helsing Vampire Series will be speaking to students beginning at 9:00 a.m. Our first presentation is by invitation for students that were the Top AR Readers the First Six Weeks or are members of the Book Club. 3rd Period and 4th Period presentations are reserved for ELA classes. Students or staff members interested in purchasing a copy of his first book, Vamire Rising, may buy one for $8.00 (cash only). Time will be alloted for autographs.
Accelerated Reader Information
De Leon MS participates in the Accelerated Reading program. Students may test in the ELA classroom or in the Library (pass required). Students are encouraged to keep up with their reading goals. ELA teachers will inform students of their AR requirements for each six weeks grading period. Readers that meet their AR goals will have an opportunity of attending library-sponsored AR Incentive events. So students, READ, READ, READ !!!!!
